How Much Does a Website Really Cost?

Over the weekend I jumped platforms and moved my website from WordPress to Squarespace.
The only cost for me was the new monthly charge for Squarespace. Whomp. For me, though I love that it’s easy to use and has a more appealing interface. Plus you can make site edits on your phone! Cool.
I’ve had a love-hate relationship with WordPress for years. The interface is so bulky and busy, but there’s Elementor. I love Elementor, it’s the one thing that made WordPress easier to work with. Elementor is a drag and drop web page builder plugin similar in purpose to any website builder.
I’ll miss the design flexibility Elementor offered, but I’m cool with dusting off my CSS construction hat to do some customization.
Here’s a breakdown of what the two platforms cost so you know what to expect when you start building your site.
Self-hosted Using Blue Host & WordPress
- Domain name and hosting $107.88 Annually or $8.99 per month
- Business email $6
Business Account Using Squarespace
- $26 paid monthly or $216 annually
- Free domain name for 1 year
Keep In Mind
These are only the costs associated with setting up and running your website yourself. If you’re working with a designer you’ll also have to factor in the cost of design and development which can start at $2000+. Other associated costs can include photography and graphics for your site, though there are free options for high-quality versions of these, you’ll risk having the same images as someone else.
